In mid November we celebrated Grandpa's (Chris' Dad) birthday and Aunt Tara's birthday (Chris' cousin). We had a fabulous dinner at my in-laws. Every meal at my in-laws is incredible because my Mother-in-law is born to be a cook. She is gifted not to just cook but to cook elaborate gourmet meals. The stuff you see at 5 star restaurants. And she makes it look so easy. Cooking for her family truly brings her joy. On the menu that night was Red Snapper with a mustard cream sauce and made from scratch Creme Brulee. Amazing! Every Christmas Eve with the exception of a couple, we have dinner at the Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas and they are famous for their Creme Brulee. Chris absolutely loves creme brulee and could it eat everday. As a matter of fact I think he did eat it everyday on our honeymoon. :) But I have to say, my Mother-in-law's creme brulee is now in competition with the Mansion's. It was a fun evening and as always, Abby was our entertainment for the evening. Here are some pics of her with the birthday boy and then a lovely one of her picking her nose.
Then later that week my Mother-in-law took me and my cousins-in-laws to afternoon tea at the Adolphus. But there is some history behind it. Laura, my MIL, has taken her nieces, Hannah & Tara, to tea every year since they were very little girls. For years they would go to Lady Primrose but unfortunately it closed a few years ago. Ever since then they have been looking for a new place to carry on the tradition. And ever since I have been a part of the family they have included me in the tradition. Last year we had tea at the Hotel Ashton in Fort Worth. It was really nice but nothing extraordinary. This year was the first time that any of us had done afternoon tea at the Adolphus in Dallas. It was incredible! It was such a unique experience and we had a wonderful time. The setting was so beautiful and it felt like we were in the middle of a Jane Austen novel. We kept waiting for Mr. Darcy to come waltzing through the door. It was very formal and feminine. The Adolphus even has a "Tea Captain" and she was so knowledgeable and shared the history of tea with us. The meal was four courses with three courses of teas. Now tea food is known as being similar to bird food and not very filling. After all, it's intended for mid afternoon and is not considered a full blown meal. But this was incredible! I left so full. The first course was tea cookies to snack on and then they brought us our first tea, Earl Grey, along with a plate FULL of tea sandwiches in very generous portions. They were so good. The Adolphus is known for its amazing 5 star restaurant The French Room so we were expecting the food to be delicious and it was. Our second course was a yummy scone with devonshire cream and strawberry preserves along with our second tea, a vanilla blend. Then our final course was extremely rich chocolate pastries along with our third tea, caramel pear. I took pictures of everything, including our food, so that I could share the full experience.
